We are excited to announce that our official running store sponsor - the Running Center - will provide pace group leaders for the marathon and half marathon this year!
Pace group leaders run a steady pace throughout the race so members of their group are able to finish the marathon or half marathon in the projected finish time for that group.
What pace groups will be offered?
TBD. Check back here for details.
How do I decide what pace group to choose?
The best way to choose a pace group is to determine your predicted finish time. The easiest way to do this is to use a race results predictor which calculates your predicted finish time using finish times from shorter races you've completed. Click here for the race results predictor posted on marathonguide.com. If your goal is to qualify for Boston this year, click here for a list of qualifying times and choose the pace group closest to that time without going over.
Is there a cost to participate?
No. Pace groups are open to all registered marathon and half marathon participants.
Where and when will I meet up with my pace group on race morning?
Look for your pace group leader close to the starting line. All pace group leaders will be holding up signs with finish times printed on them and will be wearing Running Center team singlets. Plan to meet up with your pace group no later than 30 minutes before the start.
Will the pace groups walk through the water stations?
Pace group leaders will either slow down or walk through the water stops.
Do I have to stay with my pace group the entire race?
No. If you feel uncomfortable with the pace, don't be afraid to slow down. Listen to your body and stick with a pace that feels right to you.
