Full marathon - 26.2 miles
Half marathon - 13.1 miles
Kids Marathon Mile - 1 mile
The half-marathon is walker-friendly but the full marathon is not. What is a Nom Nom bag?
Being as great as it is, we felt our "finisher food bag" needed a new name! So we introduce... ta-dah... the Nom Nom Bag! When you cross the finish line, you will be handed a pre-packed Nom Nom bag, filled with lots of love and nutritious and refueling foods - just what your body needs after your race.
Yes, for the half marathon, you must be able to complete the course in 4.25 hours. This means you must maintain a 19:27-minute-per-mile pace or faster. For the full marathon you must be able to complete the course in 6 hours. This means you must maintain a 13:44-minute-per-mile pace or faster.

Your bib number with your timing tag attached and race shirt will all be available for pickup at the expo on Friday or Saturday. You must provide a photo ID to pick up your bib number. You will use your bib number to pick up your race shirt.
How do I get my shirt and 1/4 zip pullover?
Shirts must be picked up at the Expo during regular Expo hours. Shirts will not be mailed. At the Expo, you will first pick up your bib number and will then use your bib number to pick up your shirt and 1/4 zip. While we will do all we can to ensure you receive the shirt sizes you request, unfortunately we cannot make any guarantees.
I can't pick up my bib number before race day. Can I pick it up race morning?
Yes. If you are unable to pick up your bib number and timing tag before race day, you can pick it up race morning for a $20 fee. You can pay the $20 fee on race morning if you didn't select the "Race Day Pickup" option when you registered - cash and credit card accepted.
Can I have someone pick up my bib number and timing tag for me?
Yes; however, they must come with a photocopy or picture of your ID on their phone - no exceptions.
Your entry fee is non-refundable and your bib number is transferable only during the transfer period.
Event will take place rain or shine. If conditions make it unsafe or impossible to have the event our intent would be to refund entry fees as long as the cancelled event was covered by insurance. Our hope is the weather or any other unforeseen conditions won’t prevent us from having the event in which case the Carlsbad Marathon & Half will still take place rain or shine. If you have any questions, please email email@example.com.
Active duty military members who are unable to participate because they are unexpectedly deployed may choose to either defer their entry to the following year's race or receive a refund less a $15 administration fee. Email request with a copy of orders to firstname.lastname@example.org no later than 10 days prior to event day.
The transfer period will be available from January 1 - January 5, 2018. At this time, a transfer form will be posted on the event website and any registered participant may transfer his or her entry to another person. To transfer a confirmed entry, the new registrant must complete and return the entry transfer form and transfer authorization letter and pay a $20 transfer fee before the deadline. Please note that we do not maintain a waiting list. Registered participants are responsible for finding transferees and making sure transfers are completed prior to the deadline.

However, if you choose to use such a device, it is recommended that you keep the volume at a level at which you are aware of your environment, can hear course directions and any emergency situations which may arise.
Will there be timing clocks or split time callers on the course?
Since the full and half marathon have different start times and share parts of the same course, and because we implement a wave start for the half marathon, there are no timing clocks or split time callers on the course. If you're interested in tracking your time on race day, either join a pace group or plan to wear or carry your GPS/timing device on race day.

What is the Half Marathon Triple CrownSM and how do I qualify for it?
A trio of Southern California half marathon race directors have formed an alliance to create a Half Marathon Triple CrownSM award to honor participants who finish all three half marathons in the same calendar year.
In addition to the Carlsbad Marathon/Half Marathon, the threesome includes the La Jolla Half Marathon and the America's Finest City Half Marathon.
To qualify for the Triple Crown, simply register for and complete (within each event's time limit) the Tri-City Medical Center Carlsbad Marathon OR Half Marathon, the La Jolla Half Marathon, and the American's Finest City Half Marathon all in the same calendar year and we'll take care of the rest! Special commemorative medals will be waiting for all who qualify at the Triple Crown booth located at the finish area of the America's Finest City Half Marathon. Click here to learn more.
Will there be pace groups and what are they?
Yes! Pace group leaders run a steady pace throughout the race so members of their group are able to finish the marathon or half marathon in the projected finish time for that group. You can view pace group finish times here (subject to change). If you are interested in being a pacer, please send us an email.
Please note: besides the clock at the finish line, there are no additional clocks or timers on the course.
Can I have someone pace me or participate with me in any way along the route?
Are strollers allowed?
Anyone participating with a jogging stroller must stage at the very back of the pack (regardless of wave number if participating in the half marathon).
Are dogs allowed?
Though we love animals, dogs or pets of any kind are not allowed at the race or the expo.
Why did my GPS device record a distance greater than 13.1 miles for the half marathon course or greater than 26.2 miles for the marathon course?
The half marathon and marathon courses are certified using USA Track & Field course measurement criteria employing the use of an Alan Jones counter. The courses are measured along the shortest distance between the start line and finish line, which entails taking the straight line tangent on all curves. It is virtually impossible for anyone to run the course exactly as measured, even the front runners.
A GPS device measures distance wherever you go during the race. If you go to the side of the road to a water station, the GPS records this extra distance. If you zig-zag around other runners in the first few miles, the GPS measures the extra distance. Wherever you do not run the short line tangent in the road, the additional distance you cover is measured by the GPS. A GPS device, worn in a race, will always record a distance greater than an accurately measured course.
