Yes, for the full marathon you must be able to complete the course in 6 hours. This means you must maintain a 13:44-minute-per-mile pace or faster. For the half marathon, you must be able to complete the course in 4.5 hours. This means you must maintain a 20:36-minute-per-mile pace or faster.
Note: You must participate in the event you are registered for and will not receive a finisher's shirt or medal for another event.
Where does the Kids Marathon Mile take place?
The Kids Marathon Mile takes place in Carlsbad at LEGOLAND® California. This great theme-park is located at One Legoland Drive, Carlsbad, CA 92008.
Your bib number with your timing tag attached, goodie bag and T-shirt will all be available for pickup at the expo on Friday or Saturday. You must provide a photo ID to pick up your bib number. You will use your bib number to pick up your race T-shirt.
How do I get my shirt?
Shirts must be picked up at the Expo during regular Expo hours. Shirts will not be mailed. At the Expo, you will first pick up your bib number and timing tag and will then use your bib number to pick up your shirt and goodie bag. While we will do all we can to ensure you receive the shirt size you request, unfortunately we cannot make any guarantees.
I can't pick up my bib number before race day. Can I pick it up race morning?
If you are unable to pick up your bib number and timing tag before race day, you must select the Race Day Pickup option and pay an additional $20 convenience fee when registering.
Can I have someone pick up my bib number and timing tag for me?
Yes; however, they must come with a copy of your picture ID - no exceptions.
All entry fees are NONREFUNDABLE and NONTRANSFERABLE with the following exceptions ONLY:
Active duty military members who are unable to participate because they are unexpectedly deployed may choose to either defer their entry to next year’s race or receive a refund less a $15 administration fee. To qualify you must submit a copy of your official military orders along with a written request no later than 10 days prior to event day.
Any registered participant may transfer his or her entry to another person. To transfer a confirmed entry, the new registrant must complete and return the Transfer Request Form (check back soon for form) and a letter of authorization from the previous registrant along with a transfer fee of $20 no later December 15, 2010. Please note that the Carlsbad Marathon does not maintain a wait list. Registered participant is responsible for finding the transferee and making sure the transfer is completed prior to the deadline.
What do I receive with my paid entry fee?
Each full and half marathon participant will receive:
• a long-sleeve, top-quality, technical fabric shirt
• a gorgeous and substantial finisher's medal
• a goodie bag filled with samples, coupons and valuable information
• a finish line food bag filled with tasty and nutritious refueling foods at the finish line and much more!
What are the race distances?
Full marathon - 26.2 miles
Half marathon - 13.1 miles
Kids Marathon Mile - 1 mile
Can walkers do the full or half marathon?
Yes; however, for the full marathon you must be able to complete the course in 6 hours. This means you must maintain a 13:44-minute-per-mile pace or faster. For the half marathon, you must be able to complete the course in 4.5 hours. This means you must maintain a 20:36-minute-per-mile pace or faster.
Support stations are located at approximately every mile on both the full and half marathon course. Each support station includes porta-potties and water. In addition, an energy replacement drink will be available at miles 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, 22, and 24. An energy replacement gel will be available at miles 4, 8, 13, 15, 17, 19 and 22 on the full marathon course and at miles 4 and 9 on the half marathon course.
What is the policy for the use of headphones during the race?
For your safety and the safety of your fellow participants, you are encouraged NOT to use iPods, MP3 players, or similar devices during the race. However, if you choose to use such a device, it is recommended that you keep the volume at a level at which you are aware of your environment and any emergency situations which may arise.
Will medals be presented to full and half marathon finishers?
Yes, gorgeous finisher medals are presented to each marathon and half marathon finisher upon completion of the race in the finish line chute. Participants who are disqualified because they were not able to complete the event in the specified time limits are excluded (see "Are there course time limits?" above).

Is the Tri-City Medical Center Carlsbad Marathon a Boston Marathon qualifier?
Yes. The Tri-City Medical Center Carlsbad Marathon is a qualifier to Boston. Click here to learn the current Boston qualifying times.
Is the Tri-City Medical Center Carlsbad Marathon USAT&T sanctioned?
Yes. The Carlsbad Marathon and Half Marathon are both run on certified and sanctioned courses.
What are the categories for age group awards?
The first three finishers, male and female, in the following age groups will be given awards: 17 & under, 18-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, and 80+. A special military division will award the top 3 active duty military finishers, male and female in the following age groups: 29 & under, 30-39, and 40+.
Awards will be available at the Information booth. Awards not picked up at the Information booth will be mailed out after the race.
Note: Awards will be based on net chip time and prize money will be based on clock time.
What is the average weather on race day?
45 degrees Fahrenheit at the start warming by 15 to 20 degrees by noon.
When will the results be posted?
Results will be available race day and posted in the post-race massage tent (also the registration tent). Results will also be available online.
What is the Half Marathon Triple CrownSM and how do I qualify for it?
A trio of Southern California half marathon race directors have formed an alliance to create a Half Marathon Triple CrownSM award to honor participants who finish all three half marathons in the same calendar year.
In addition to the Carlsbad Marathon/Half Marathon, the threesome includes the La Jolla Half Marathon and the America's Finest City Half Marathon.
To qualify for the Triple Crown, simply register for and complete (within each event's time limit) the Tri-City Medical Center Carlsbad Marathon OR Half Marathon, the La Jolla Half Marathon, and the American's Finest City Half Marathon all in the same calendar year and we'll take care of the rest! Special commemorative medals will be waiting for all who qualify at the Triple Crown booth located at the finish area of the America's Finest City Half Marathon.
